Nachtwacht returns in 2027

Between March and May 2027, Nachtwacht will return to theaters across the Netherlands.

Nachtwacht follows a family during the final phase of their father’s life (“Mr.”). As he prepares for the end, his children try to break free from old patterns and expectations. The performance is about aging, mortality, and care – but also about love, resilience, and the complex roles we play within a family.

With a cast of 23 musicians, dancers, and actors, a physical and musical performance emerges in which disciplines intertwine. The evening slowly comes to life: a heartbeat weakens, falters – and grows into an unstoppable beat. What begins as a recognizable reality shifts into a ritualistic, almost hallucinatory experience in which music and movement take over.

Nachtwacht takes a sharp and empathetic look at care and dependency. How does a person remain human within a system of rules, observations, and administration?

The performance shows how dying never happens alone – and what that means for the people around them.

A performance about small, recognizable moments, and the big questions that lie beneath them.

A play about the end – and everything leading up to it
